Rosemary and Laura travel to Italy to prepare the gardens for Emma Standish's new Italian restaurant.

Although they are behind with the work, they decide they need to relax and go on a guided tour of a garden called the Giardini Tremonti, arranged by local fixer Fabrizio Biaggi. But the tour is disturbed when Janice Alexander is found dead. Fabrizio is arrested, and their friend Emma asks them to save Fabrizio.

The plot thickens when Basil Slavinski, a retired diplomat, is found dead at the bottom of his cliff-top garden.
