Blending acoustic instrumentation, rock 'n' roll drive and a tireless work ethic, Mumford & Sons have an international reputation as one of the best live bands, winning the hearts of their audiences with their masterful, melancholy voices and musical skills. Tonight the multi-Grammy nominated band makes their Austin City Limits debut.

Bonding over a shared love of country, bluegrass and folk, songwriter Marcus Mumford and three of his closest friends - Country Winston, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane - began working together in 2007. The friends had been playing different instruments in various London bands. "As soon as we sat down together, just the four of us, we knew that we had become a band cause what came out was unique to us four as individuals," said Lovett.

They released a series of 10" LPs and EPs and with each release the music of Mumford & Sons got brighter, bolder, and brawnier. The band's songs also had an increased focus on their impassioned and intimate lyrics. "What we write about is real, and we sign and play our instruments more passionately cause we feel like we need to. We love honest music," said Winston.

2009's full-length debut, Sign No More, received global critical praise. The New York Times wrote, "they have rediscovered the modal melodies and unflinching lyrics of traditional songs as foundations for their own" and Spin wrote "thanks to a volatile mix of the uplifting and the gloomy ... Sign No More earned Mumford & Sons Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rock Song for "Little Lion Man" and enthusiastic American fans. "Sigh No More inspires evangelism through sheer force of will. Between Mumford's gripping wail and the Sons' whirlwind revelries, it's a revival that's hard to resist," wrote PopMatters.
